During the first rush to New Bendigo in 1855, alluvial mining was concentrated in the gully, and out onto the flat where the creek had deposited gold eroded from the reefs on the hills over millions of years. This alluvial was rich in gold averaging over 31 grams per tonne. In this history the emphasis is on the miners and mining investors how and where they raised capital to develop the mines and the production methods they used.
